One of the first Fall-themed Hallmark movies I ever saw was, Growing the Big One. It seems like so long ago that I saw this movie, but it only came out in 2010. I’m still under the false impression 1999 was ten years ago. In the movie Shannen Doherty plays Emma a big city DJ in Seattle, and her city life is turned upside-down when she discovers her grandfather left his farm and debt to her in his will. Yikes! Emma goes out to her new farm in Valleyville, WA, and meets her new neighbor Seth played by Kavan Smith. In order to save her new farm from foreclosing she enters into the city’s annual pumpkin contest. Seth assists Emma in using her grandfather’s prized seeds to grow one of the biggest pumpkins Valleyville has ever seen. The movie has a happy ending, both for Emma’s farm and Emma’s heart.

Ever since I saw this movie, I went on a quest to find an awesome pumpkin patch. This is not an easy feat in Southern California, but then again you would be surprised. This October, I found the one. Live Oak Canyon Pumpkin Patch is like nothing I have ever seen. There are so many fun Fall activities, and amazing pumpkins. Best of all, it has a really great farm atmosphere.

We enjoyed all the great fair food this place had to offer. There corn dogs were out of this world, and we definitely had a pretzel. While eating a funny little chicken show happened. It was very nostalgic of the Muppets. It made me feel like I was a little kid, which I think is exactly how you want to feel in these sorts of situations.

They had a ton of rides, but unfortunately, we didn’t have time to go on most of them. We made the mistake of going on a Sunday night, and only had about two hours to accomplish as much as we could.
They had cute pumpkin houses, that were great for photo opportunities. Is it me, or are pumpkin houses all the rage this year?

We finally settled on a couple pumpkins. They had the best heirloom variety. I chose a really beautiful sage colored pumpkin, small white pumpkin, an orange pumpkin, and an orange pumpkin with green spots.

My fiancé and I treated it like a date night, and it was a lot of fun! From the bumpy hayride up the hill to the amazing fair food; I give it 10/10 corn on the cobs. I can’t wait to go back next year! I’m also inspired to possibly grow my own pumpkin next season. Should I???
